Marco rescues dogs that are abandoned or that are alone in the streets. The boy rescues them, feeds and drinks the animals, makes sure they look healthy, and then looks for a family that wants to take them in. The boy was dubbed the “protector”.

On his first “rescue”, he was with his brother Franco, when they found a box with three puppies inside, puppies a few weeks old. The two took the box and took it home; they cleaned the puppies, gave them food and drink for a while, and then looked for someone to adopt the little dogs. They found a family with whom they had a certain friendship and this was the beginning of a wonderful adventure: not leaving any dog abandoned in the street.

Marco is not alone in his work, his spirit to help abandoned animals has a contagious solidarity, he has the help of his brother, his sister-in-law and the support of his parents, all of them also cooperate in this work. In addition, Marco already has a girlfriend, and she is responsible for publishing on social networks the photos of the dogs that were abandoned and that were collected, to enable the adoption.

In everyday life, little Marco walks attentively through the streets, aware that at any time and place there may be a box with small abandoned dogs, an animal loose in the streets looking for food among the garbage, etc. His biggest dream is to create a shelter for stray dogs.

At school, he never told anyone about this activity for fear of criticism, pranks, etc., although he assures him that he did not say it because he never had the opportunity to do so. It’s an activity Marco tried to keep secret. And it is to be expected that, after the publicity that this fame is giving him, there will be many friends and companions who will help him in his wonderful daily work.

With the current crisis, the number of stray dogs has increased greatly, both purebred dogs and mutts. However, we have to keep in mind that not all the dogs that we see roaming the streets were abandoned, there are cases of lack of responsibility from the owners, who leave the dog alone in any place.

On many occasions, dogs, driven by instinct and smell, go to places that call their attention, moving away from their owners, their usual home, etc. In the case of unneutered dogs, and females that have not been spayed, the risk of creating a problem like this is even greater.

How to act in front of a supposed abandoned dog?

The first is to observe it closely and then approach it slowly. In this way we will see if the animal trembles, if it curls up, grunts, if it adopts a defensive position, etc. We should not look the dog directly in the eye, as this will create distrust in the animal. The ideal is to offer him some food and water, leaving him close and driving us away.

It is also important to note if the animal is injured, lame, has a collar or any identifying element, such as plates with the names of the owners, etc. Taking the dog to a veterinarian to see if the animal has an ID chip is a quick way to look for a solution to the problem.

If the owner is identified, it is best to get in touch with him and schedule an appointment to deliver the animal. Most likely, the dog’s owner will show us his sincere gratitude and, in addition, we will see the animal very happy to be able to reconnect with its most beloved being.

If finding the owner is not a simple task, it is best to take a picture of the dog and put it in the place where we found it, as well as on social networks and forums, or on those sites and pages that focus on finding the lost animals in different regions. The more sites the photo of the pet is placed on, the more chances we have of finding the owner. If we can’t find the pet’s owner, adopting him might be a wonderful idea.
