Cat-café: A Coffee Shop Where You Can Surround Yourself With Cats
About two years ago, a new type of business called Cat-café started to be opened in Spain. We have already spoken to you on another occasion about the “Espai de Gats”, a café that opened in Barcelona and which already has a branch in Madrid. We’ll talk more about these places and what you can do in them. If you are a cat lover, don’t miss it!

A Cat-café is a place to have coffee with cats. Don’t think this is a place for you to take your cat, no, it’s a place where you can go and be surrounded by cats.
You can have a drink, whether it’s coffee or any other drink, you can connect to a Wi-Fi network, work with your laptop, read the newspaper or do what you like most to distract yourself. All this with good, soft music in the background.
When you enter a cat-café you will no longer want to leave, that’s for sure. Cats have made these places even more welcoming.
But why cats in a cafeteria?
In addition to wanting cat lovers to surround themselves with their favorite animal while drinking the drink they like best, the fact that the cats are all over the place has a solidarity purpose.
These cats come from protective associations and are animals that are looking for an owner and for some reason have not yet found them. This type of place offers an opportunity for those who love pussies to go out to meet them daily, get to know the personality of these pets and find out if there is a feline that suits their needs.
Possibly that person already has another cat and wants to adopt another one, or maybe he doesn’t have any, but would like to. In a Cat-café you have the opportunity to get to know a feline well and be able to make a decision based on the feelings that each one arouses, before making the decision to adopt him.
It is possible to play with them, caress them, put them on your lap, feed them… The only risk is that you fall in love with one of them.
Where did the idea come from?
This is not very clear, but what we do know is that there are different Cat-cafes around the world: Taiwan, London, Paris, Budapest, Japan and others.
It seems that Taiwan’s was the first to be opened in 1998, at least it’s the first known.
Without a doubt, it is an excellent initiative to give a home to the most disadvantaged cats and we hope that, very soon, this brilliant idea will be implemented in every country in the world.
At the moment, in Spain, for example, there are already two: “Gatoteca” in Madrid and “Espai de Cats” in Barcelona. If you visit one of these two cities, you cannot miss one of these two Cat-cafés, whether you are a cat lover or not, your curiosity will have to be satiated.
For example, at Gatoteca, in Madrid, a contribution of 5 euros is required for the entrance fee and that includes consummation. It’s not bad, taking into account that this money will be used for food, veterinary care and the care of cats that live in the cafe waiting to be adopted.
The “Espai de Gats” is a place that opened its doors just two months ago and was created by two friends who met on their travels around the world.
It is excellent news to know that there are entrepreneurs who dare to do something different, something that helps the most disadvantaged animals. Good news for those who love animals.
