What Should I Choose? Dry Food Or Canned Food For Dogs And Cats?

Thinking about what kind of food to feed our pet is a question we all ask ourselves when we first decide to have a pet. However, before making a decision between buying dry food or canned food (wet food) for our pet, we should be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Of course, we are talking about a diet that relies exclusively on canned foods. This is not to say that you cannot offer this treat to your dog from time to time.

But we  advise you to buy good quality canned food. The cheaper ones are usually prepared with leftovers  and will not benefit your dog at all. Another disadvantage is that your digestion will be slower, lowering your four-legged friend’s energy level.

Feed characteristics

The feed is made to meet the nutritional needs of your furry. In addition, it provides an easy and quick digestion that favors the animal’s intestinal flora. It’s also great for your teeth, as it not only cleans and strengthens your teeth, it keeps your breath fresh.

The dry food was specially designed for dogs. It contains everything dogs need for their daily lives. So don’t think “poor thing, he’s just eating dry food”. Also,  from time to time you can give your pet some canned food or some meat, ham you eat at home. But remember, this cannot exceed 10% of your pet’s daily diet.

If your dog eats food normally, it is not necessary to change it,  especially if it is of good quality. Dogs are often very sensitive to dietary changes.

It’s not just that they ask us for food while we’re cooking or eating something that means they’re sick of kibble. On the contrary, they do it because they are used to eating as much as they can, as they don’t know when they will eat again.

The best thing to do is educate your dog so that he doesn’t ask for food while you eat. And, of course, don’t let him into the kitchen while you’re cooking.

But then dry kibble or canned food?

As you’ve already seen in this article,  pet food is the most recommended food for your pet, but it’s not always the best option. It is very important to know the health status of your dog or cat, since, depending on him, canned food is perhaps the most recommendable.

For example,  in animals with urinary system problems or constipation, canned foods can help resolve these problems. In addition, canned foods can be chosen in the same way as the ration, according to age, allergies, sensitivity and even to combat any disease.

It is best, as always, to consult your veterinarian to specify the type of food you should offer your pet.
